MCAO (Middle Cerebral Artery Occlusion)

MCAO in mice and rats is widely used as a stroke model. Techniques include direct occlusion of the artery by elctrocoagulation, by Thrombine injection and indirect occlusion from the carotid atrery by occlusion or advancing a "plug" made if a silicone cladded suture into the brain arteries.WPI offers a wide range of tools for surgery including stereomicroscopes, anesthesia equipment, animal temperature control as well as small scissors, forceps and vessel clips. For cautery we offer electrocoagulators, for thrombine injection our Taxic stereotaxic frames with UMP3 pump are ideal and for occlusion of the middle cerebral artery form the carodis we offer silicone adhesives like RTV sealant to increase the diameter of a suture thread.
